To celebrate all the brains behind our Thrive Festival brands we wanted to delve deeper into the beginnings behind each one! Today we chat to David from Hemp Heroes
What is Hemp Heroes mission statement?
Our mission is to provide people around the globe with high-quality CBD and Hemp products and to educate people on the many benefits Hemp can bring. “Be the Hero of your own Health”
Where did you get the inspiration for your brand?
The inspiration for Hemp Heros came from our own experiences with CBD products. Personally, I had family members who used it for joint issues and found great relief in it. Then John my co-founder used it on his Dog Alfie who suffers from arthritis.
Alfie at the time had been to the vet three times and was on tramadol pain killers at this stage which had little to no effect. The vet had suggested to John it might be time to put Alfie down as he was in pain. John in a last-ditch attempt tried CBD oil and it worked wonders. Alfie is still alive 2 years later now and has a great quality of life.
It was a combination of these experiences that we decided to start Hemp Heros as we wanted to bring something to the market which was high quality, affordable and would have a real positive impact on people and pets lives.
What are some of your favourite brands in your space that you don’t make?
The clothes brand Patagonia would be interesting as they are starting to make clothes using Hemp. Hemp clothing is something we would love to do as its great for the environment. Hemp clothing takes much less water than cotton to grow and takes in more Co2 than it produces.
In your opinion, what has been the biggest innovation within your sector in the last few years?
The Hemp Industry is quite new, but id say the research being done on how Cannabinoids (CBD etc) interaction within the body and the importance of the Endocannabinoid system
What has running your own business taught you?
Running my own business has though me a lot in terms of time management and what hard work means. People from the outside usually only see the successful moments of your business and most don’t witness the day to day grind or setbacks. Being a business owner means its success or failure lies on the decisions you make so it can be a lot of pressure as you never really switch off. In saying that having my own business in this space is where I have been able to find my real passion.
What do you think is the next big thing in the world of health and wellness?
The next big step in health and wellness I think be a move towards natural alternatives and away from pharmaceutical products. The world is changing, and most people are much more aware of what they consume, wear and put in their bodies. People want a move back toward nature and away from artificial.
You’ve been working from home during the COVID19 crisis. Tell us what your daily routine is like?
Working from home was a challenge at first but at this stage, it’s the new normal. My daily routine is usually wake up at 7 am and I get on top of the mountain of emails I have and look at my to-do list of the day.
I would then go through the list of orders for the day and ensure everything is ready to go for the post. Later in the evening at 2 or 3pm, I would usually try to get an hour in the gym of a home workout to clean my head.
I would usually work then again till 6ish on various elements on the business whether it be researching new products, new markets or opportunities. I then try to switch off later in the day and walk the dog or watch something on Netflix.
