Fitness In Your Forties – Age is just a number
Hi, I’m Vikki, 46 years young, mom, of 2, wife, homemaker, formerly a bookkeeper by trade but over the last few years, I have studied to be an online Nutrition Coach & Personal Trainer. I have followed my passion which is Fitness.
I am fitter, healthier and happier now in my mid 40’s than I was in my 20’s and 30’s. Many people think that once you reach your 40‘s you cannot change your body, your physique, your lifestyle or your reflection in the mirror. This is not true.
My own journey with Health & Fitness first started over 5 years ago when I was 41 !! My lifestyle before I changed my way of living consisted of wine most nights chilling out at home, poor food choices, fad diets, yo-yo dieting with restricting / binge cycles and a lack of clear purpose. This all led me to a point whereby I wasn’t too impressed with what I saw in the mirror physically or how I felt mentally and the unhealthy direction my life was taking me as I headed into my 40’s.
So I decided to do something about it and be proactive about my health and fitness making it more of a priority.
Believe me when I say I tried and failed numerous different diet approaches, strict boring meal plans, fad diets etc ….all of which I didn’t find enjoyable or sustainable UNTIL I discovered and became educated on the concept of flexible dieting did I see results in weight loss and maintain those results. I discovered you don’t need to cut out “bad foods” or certain food groups to get in shape and be fit and healthy.
Where do you start?
Small daily changes and creating new healthier habits is always the first step in any fitness journey with regards to your nutrition.
I went to a personal trainer initially in 2015 to learn the ropes with resistance training. I learned how to train and I enjoyed it. I joined a gym and found an immense passion for lifting weights and now train 5 days a week.
FYI – Weight lifting isn’t just about bulking up and building muscle mass, Its benefits include improved posture, better sleep, gaining bone density, maintaining weight loss, boosting metabolism, lowering inflammation and staving off chronic disease, among a long list of positives. Lifting weights is good for your health and good for your body
I now live a very balanced happy healthy fit life, eat a wide variety of foods including cake, carbs and chocolate along with the more nutrient-dense foods !!
Don’t ever feel defeated by your age. You can do and change anything your heart desires.
